Had one of the most BORING dinners ever last night. Went to my mom's old school where my sis is currently studying in as well, Tanjong Katong Girls Secondary School. It was peak hour when we left the house, planning to meet up with dad at the school itself, with my mom driving our car. I hadn't the slightest inkling where we were headed to at all at first; I got an immense fright that we were ACTUALLY gonna have to watch a concert & have dinner at my mom's old school, supposedly celebrating TKGS's 55th Anniversary. We got there late due to the busy evening roads, & missed catching at least two thirds of the whole performance. The TKGS hall was where I witnessed a whole bunch of old women, most of them former TKGSians, behave like 10 year olds, noisy with their shrieks of joy. I just stood there trying not to stare in disgust as I saw women in their 50s & 60s yapping incessantly amongst themselves like 17 year olds trapped in 50 or 60 year olds' bodies.
After the applauding just to seem polite in the hall's ceremony, we made our way downstairs for dinner in the schools' canteen. The good thing was that it was way breezier than I had expected it to be there; we sat around the cicrle shaped tables with other former TKGSians; the guys who were present like me felt really out of place; there were so few of us. Well, TKGS is an all-girls school anyways, so yeah. We were served a dish per table EVERY HALF an hour. I was bored to death waiting as dish after dish arrived, & there were about 7 courses of them. My parents chatted jovially with those present at the anniversary, some of them my mom's old friends. I had nothing to do there but glance around while nibbling on the food slowly(& they didn't taste THAT good) while listening to tracks on my iPod.
All in all, it was a rather disappointing experience for me, I had thought that the posh place we were going to have dinner at was somewhere in town, or something, but it turned out to be nowhere else but the basketball court of my mom's old school, also my sis's current school's, having a pitiful meal. At least they remembered to set up a shelter & decorate the area abit; it'd be really weird for us to be having an 80-dollar ticket admission and then have dinner in a BASKETBALL COURT. Perhaps only nutheaded players of the sport'd find that appealing.
Oh well, at least I made my mom happy =_= by accompanying here there along with my dad & sis. I'm glad the only people there weren't oldies; there were those around my age there as well, the current students who also attended, in particular. I was clueless about how my sis felt there; at first she was hesistant about meeting her friends as she felt embarrassed being back in school during the holiday, but the next moment she was giggling convulsively with her group of friends. At least I got to mingle with all the chiobus ~ hehehe just joking.(although there were both nerdy girls & pretty girls there, I must say)
The few things which actually benefitted me albeit in the least of ways was having the privelege of visiting the school itself which was the centre of excellence for English; my only pity was that it just had to be an all female's school. I know, stereotyping right? I don't give a hoot about it. It's not like there're no female engineers or male poets in this world. Anyone can be achieve greatness in their own right. Also, I got to know that Halimah Yaacob & Suzanne Ho were also from TKGS lol! That was certainly interesting news for me. Hmm.. no wonder she could be a newscaster, such fluent english! Maybe I'd be one too, in the future.. a newscaster... hmmmm.....
